True Love Waited
Jesus' greatest miracle before His own resurrection was the resurrection of Lazarus. As we read about it in John 11 we see that even this was not enough to change the hearts of the some of the priests and pharisees. Yet Jesus in His earnest desire to communicate His power to those who would hear was punctuated by His weeping at the grave of His beloved friend. Not sorrowing as those who have no hope, but I believe grieving for those who had seen His power previously and still did not believe!

The Good Shepherds Sheep
All of the promises of God are yes and amen! This week we look again at Jesus teaching in John 10 regarding His sheep and what He is giving them. Jesus says my Sheep know me and I give them eternal life. This promise is based on Jesus' claim to be able to take His life back again once He has laid it down for His sheep. This is a profound promise with an amazing guarantee. As Christians we need to lay hold of that promise and understand exactly who it is and how He guarantees it to His sheep.

The Good Shepherd and The Bad Shepherds
Entering into John chapter 10 we find Jesus taking the Pharisees further in the discussion that ended in John 9 where He accused them of spiritual blindness. Here He calls them thieves and robbers and hirelings who do not care for the flock of God. It is a good discussion about what godly leaders are like and how they care for the flock. We can benefit from this wisdom and examine our own place in God's Sheepfold.

Man's Suffering - God's Sovereignty
In John 9 Jesus uses a man born blind in order to show the people His power. This man had been blind his whole life and was determined by God for this very purpose. Is that fair? Can God do that? Our sensibilities may be offended at the thought that God would not only allow, but cause such a situation. How do we view suffering in light of the presence of a loving God? This is one of the classic complaints of atheists and agnostics, that suffering demonstrates that God either does not exist or is not loving. If He was He would have to end all suffering. Is this really the case? What does the Bible say? What should our attitude be?

Believe That I AM
In this dialogue with the Pharisees Jesus makes some profound claims and demands. The Church has lost sight of many of these fundamental doctrines and made believing in Jesus much less than what He demands. Jesus' claim to deity and the depraved state of humanity are the beginning point of understanding the Gospel. Jesus takes the Pharisees down this road and forces them into the place of needing these truths to be right with a holy God. Their response, "Are we not right to say that He is a Samaritan and that He has a demon?" What is your response to these truths?

Condemnation or Grace?
In John 8, Jesus continues to make bold statements about Himself, this time hardly saying a word. Jesus responds to the scribes and pharisees who bring to Him a woman caught in adultery by virtually ignoring them. A great example of how to deal with people bent on pointing out the sins of others in order to make themselves look better! More than that, Jesus also gives us the example of His own heart toward sinners. He extends grace and offers restoration to repentant sinners, not based upon an overlooking of sin, but upon His own remedy for dealing with it, the cross. What is your attitude about dealing with sin in others? Are you a pharisee who wants justice for others sins while diminishing your own? Or are you like Jesus who wants to see restoration take place?

That Which is Born of Flesh
This message was preached for the first Sunday of Advent and reflects on the fallen nature of humanity using Nicodemus as a great example of one who is sincere but misguided in his religion. Jesus points out to him that it is not through heritage, relationship or zeal for righteousness that men are justified, but by faith in Christ! He tells him that he "must be born again." indicating that it is not merely human effort that is required but a new kind and quality of life given to us by God Himself!

The Ministry of John the Baptist
The most important work that we can do as Christians is to communicate the message of the Gospel clearly to the culture at large. This involves living before the world as ambassadors of Christ, but an ambassador who never speaks is really no ambassador at all. We are commanded to "Preach the Gospel to every creature." that means we need to know what we are commanded to proclaim. Leaving either of these out leaves us with an incomplete massage.

Of His Fullness We Have All Received
What happens when God, the Creator, Life Giver and Teacher or Light Giver enters into His creation? He is here to express His mind to us, "The Word became flesh and dwelt among us!" God has indeed expressed His mind to us in the God/Man, Jesus Christ. What can we learn about the mind of God by looking closer at Christ?

God the Word
There many ways to know about God. Creation tells us that He exists and the He has creative power and logically must be "other" than His creation. Romans 1:20 says just this; "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse," We need a greater and more precise knowledge to actually "know" God rather than just know about Him. God has expressed Himself in such a way and that is what John's introduction to his Gospel is all about!
