God the Word

There many ways to know about God. Creation tells us that He exists and the He has creative power and logically must be "other" than His creation. Romans 1:20 says just this; "For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse," We need a greater and more precise knowledge to actually "know" God rather than just know about Him. God has expressed Himself in such a way and that is what John's introduction to his Gospel is all about!

Trusting God

What is faith? It is more that believing in God, it is taking Him at His Word, believing Him. WE need not only to believe in God, but to trust Him, knowing that He is faithful and will do what He has promised.

Redemption

What does it mean to be "redeemed?" We are Christ's purchased possession and it is amazing, the circumstances that surround that transaction!

Walking in Wisdom

Once we ourselves have an understanding of the Gospel and truly know Christ as Savior, it should become a passion in us to get that message to others! How do we "Walk in Wisdom toward those who are outside" in order to win them to Christ?

Becoming 1 in 1000

My sermon was from the text which has defined my ministry for most of its existence, Job 33:23-24. In this passage, Job has gone through his tragedies and then argued with his three friends for 29 chapters of the book. In chapter 32 a man named Elihu enters the scene and changes the direction of the discussion. I realize that there are different views of this book, but as I read it I see Elihu as an evangelist who brings Job to a right understanding of God and his situation. It is after Elihu's four discourses in chapters 32-37 that God enters the scene and confronts Job Himself. Elihu is also not included in God's rebuke of the other three men. As Elihu describes his ministry he says this, Job 33:23-24 "If there is a messenger for him, a mediator, one among a thousand to man His uprightness, 24 then God is gracious to him and says, 'Deliver him from going down to the pit, behold I have found a ransom!" We need to be ready as Elihu was to speak to the culture whether they are "good" people or not we need to 1. Be a messenger; bring God's message of judgment and of mercy to them. 2. Be a mediator or interpreter; explaining to them that there situation of suffering is God's mercy designed to bring them to repentance and faith. 3. Be 1in1000; the rare individual that is willing and able to perform that task. 4. Be ready to show them that God is righteous even though He makes us suffer because first of all, He is God and has a right over His creation and secondly because He uses suffering to get our attention and draw us to Himself for our benefit. 5. Be ready to show them that this is God's grace 6. Be ready to show them the Ransom, Jesus Christ! We are not all "evangelists," but we are all ambassadors for Christ and we need to be willing and able to reach into the life of our culture, our families and friends with this message and help people who have no idea about what the one true God is like to understand His workings in their lives. I pray that you are inspired and encourage to the task of being 1in100 as you listen.

Let the Word of Christ Dwell in You Richly

God's Word is of the utmost importance in the Christian life. We cannot live for a God we know nothing about. The Word of God is a treasure that reveals to us His nature and his grace and love for His people. How well do you know the Word of God? Does it dwell in you richly?

Got Doctrine - Got Deeds

This verse combines two of the most important elements of the Christian life, Knowing the right things and living like you know them. This is my prayer for all Believers, that we would live like we really believe what God has done for us. Without that knowledge we have nothing on which to base our lives, but just because we can tell someone what the Gospel means doesn't mean that we are living it. Richard Baxter, a 17th century English puritan asks in his book The Reformed Pastor, "Will God save those who tell others those truths which they themselves neglect or abuse?" We need to know it and live it.

Chasing Wind

What is important in life? Solomon, one of the wisest men who ever lived had a lot to say about this. Even this great man blew it big time and after reflecting on his life in his old age, he tells us that what we need to do is focus on God's mercy and grace and not on the stuff of this life. The fleeting pleasures of this life will rob us of the things that are of the most importance, eternal things.
