Act(s) XXIa - Scene I, II, and III
The 21st chapter of Acts contains three basic messages. 1. The value and danger of personal prophetic words. 2. The value of and lesson of becoming all things to all men. 3. A reminder of our need for the fellowship and encouragement of the brethren as we march into the teeth of our assigned mission in the kingdom of our Lord. This message endeavors to illuminate all three of these lessons.
Act(s) XX - Scene I and II
This study of Acts 20 deals with the gathering of the early church; the elements of their gathering and the consistency. Luke 10 serves as a model of our gathering today in the modern day church. Also discussed is the relationship between what Paul distinguishes as "sheep and shepherds." The role of leaders is identified and the requirements are illuminated. The message concludes with a brief look at Jesus' words, "It is more blessed to give than to receive." This is adopting a posture of outflow first.
Act(s) XIX - Scene I, II, III
In this teaching we examine the impact disciples make for the kingdom and differentiate between disciples and believers. We also take a look at our functioning in the name of Jesus as His authorized agents in the earth. And it finishes up with a brief look at how the early disciples responded to opposition and antagonism in the city of Ephesus. All this is under the heading "Self-Examining the Church."
Act(s) XVIII - Scene I, II
Sometimes overlooked in the missionary work of the Apostle Paul is the corporeity of the mission. The partnership of Aquila and Priscilla offers a picture of how we as believers come alongside one another in the work of the kingdom. And then we see how Aquila and Priscilla came alongside Apollos and helped him more correctly set his course. This message concludes with a look at the teachableness of Apollos; a trait all God's people should embrace.
Act(s) XVIIb - Scene III and IV
While awaiting the arrival of Timothy and Silas, Paul roams about Athens and observes they are very religious, and yet very ungodly. He begins to dialog with them about one statue they have erected to The Unknown God. This lesson compares the values of ancient Athens to our current culture; observes how the apostle responds to that climate; and finally gleans some of the strategy Paul employed when engaging with this Athenian society.
Growing Up as Jesus Did
In this message we see the humanity of Jesus revealed and we identify those qualities and characteristics Jesus the man needed as He grew into an adult and beyond. This includes wisdom, favor, grace, and the thrust of this message concludes with a look at Jesus' consecration and how that translates to us.
Silent Night - Holy Night
While the world slept unaware, the greatest moment in human history occurred in a small and insignificant town called Bethlehem. Our Savior was born to unremarkable people in an unimportant region in a feeding trough. This night was silent to the world, but all of history would mark this night as the birth of Jesus Christ. This message relates how this silent night translates into a silent army of believers.
The Shadow of the Feasts
Someone has said "The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed." In this study, Kevin Brummett addresses three of the Jewish Festivals and their parallel application to the Christian faith as we experience it under the New Covenant.
Cook the Turkey
Could it be that we wade out into adventures for God with first preparing? That is not dissimilar to eating the Thanksgiving turkey before cooking it. This message deals with preparation as one discipline we exercise to equip us for the place of battle and service in the Kingdom of God. It concludes with a word of a prophetic nature dealing with choices.
Act(s) XVII - Scene I, II
In Acts 17 we see Paul addressing two groups of people with the Scriptures; the Jews and Greeks at Thessalonica and those at Berea. Therefore this study deals almost exclusively with the value and importance of our adhering to the standard of Scripture and it identifies some of the value of the Scripture to those who are disciples of Christ. Find out what the exhale of God is in the Bible and what nautical term identifies God's intention for followers of Christ.
