Daniel 12:1-4: An Angel, Trouble, and Resurrection

Daniel 12:1–4
An Angel, Trouble, and Resurrection

Introduction. Review chapter 11, 2 kings, Antiochus IV, Herod the Great

I. The Prince of Israel, Michael the Angel
A. The timing, vs. 1 at that time, The Angel Michael

Herod the Great, born, 74 BC, Started rule in Jerusalem, 37 B.C., Jesus born, 5 B.C., Herod dies 4 B.C., scabies, kidneys, gangrene. The Herods’ continue to rule, 26 A.D. (25–28), crucifixion, burial, resurrection, ascension of Jesus Christ, about 32 years after Herod the Great’s death with no one to help him. Then Michael stands up to fight. 3.5 years go by, Stephen is martyred, the Gentile church is established, Saul becomes Paul. Then the Roman’s respond to the Jewish rebellion in 66 A.D. 40 years after the establishment of the Gentile church, one generation as promises in Matt 23 and 24, 70 A.D. was the final end to the Mosaic covenant era and the ceasing of the sacrifices. It officially ended when the veil was torn in the temple, seconds after Jesus died. The shekinah glory descending on the 11 Apostles in the court of the Gentiles under Solomon’s porch was another sign of the Messianic era, the Last days had begun, as well as the Samaritan and then Gentile conversions also accompanied by the sign gifts of the Spirit.
Michael standing, arising to fight occurred right after the Ascension of the Messiah.
Rev 12

B. Many commentaries believe Michael = Jesus, but he appears to an archangel here and elsewhere, Jude 9, Rev. 12 in the Bible. Jesus is the Stone that crushes the Roman empire, and His Messianic kingdom begins during the Roman rule of Israel, and grows and Daniel predicts.
His is an everlasting kingdom, the four kingdoms in this book, 605 B.C. to 70 A.D. all end.

C. The time of distress. Not in the Greek period. During Rome Robo-Beast, the first fulfillment of this symbol. The elect are saved, most of the others are not. 70 A.D.
During siege Jerusalem, 66 A.D., emperor Vepsian dies, his son Titus is leading the attack on
Jerusalem. He returns to Rome, because of Matt 24, the Christians in mass leave the city and go to Pella, the Romans return in 67A.D., Titus is now the emperor. The city falls in 70 A.D. Most of the Jews died. Some survived, and became slaves. A few escaped.
Matt 24:1–31
Three questions in verse 3.

D. Written in the book, the book of life, all the elects names are in there, premenantly

E. This symbol will be repeated again before the end, a time of great tribulation, but this time it will be focused on elect Gentiles and Jews

II. The Resurrection vs. 2

A. The fulfillments of this symbol, Note the words “many, some and some (or others)”
   1. Jesus Ministry wiping out sickness from Israel and raising the dead, culminating on the cross Matt 27:52–53
   2. The birth of the church in Israel, Acts 2, the New Covenant was life from the dead
Do not be amazed at this, because a time is coming when all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come out -- those who have done good things, to the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked things, to the resurrection of judgment. (John 5:28 HCSB)
   3. Hope for those who saw the vindication of Jesus with the destruction of 70 A.D. Is Israel over? Ezek 37 Some Jews survived Robo-Beast in Judah.
   4. 1948 The Resurrection of Israel, one that involved believers and non-believers
   5. Rom 11, The mass conversion of Jews waiting to come
So that you will not be conceited,1 brothers, I do not want you to be unaware2 of this mystery:3 A partial hardening has come to Israel4 until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.5 26 And in this way (or and so) all1 Israel will be saved, as it is written: The Liberator will come from Zion; He will turn away godlessness from Jacob. 27 And this will be My covenant with them12 when I take away their sins.34 (Rom 11:25 CSB)
  6. The 2nd Resurrection at the end of the Thousand years
     Rev 20:1–6, First for Martyrs

For athe Lord himself will descend bfrom heaven cwith a cry of command, with the voice of dan archangel, and ewith the sound of the trumpet of God. And fthe dead in Christ will rise first. (1Th 4:16 ESV)
But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then aat his coming bthose who belong to Christ. (1Cor 15:23 ESV)

B. Note the word everlasting, glorification is a final state, the glory of Christ is shared with the faithful who follow Him unto death. Martyr crown.

III. What should God’s people do during difficult times? vs. 3
    See Dan 7:27, 11:32–33, 35
Rewards for the martyrs, faithful preachers and teachers, faithful Christians who share their faith and biblical truth with others

IV. Protect and preserve the original and make copies, vs 4
      Seal, notarize, authenticate
A. Many will go back and forth Greek & Roman armies
B. Seeker of knowledge
C. Knowledge will increase
Negatively
hey shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro, to seek the word of the LORD, bbut they shall not find it. (Amos 8:12 ESV)
