Halloween – Trick or Treat?

 

Halloween has become one of the biggest holidays in America.

   

As with most holidays, it’s prominence is driven by consumerism

 

Holidays have always been sacred to God (Leviticus 23:1-2)

 

It is important to Him that we preserve the meaning of them

 

As “ambassadors for Christ,” we are obligated to have a purpose and meaning behind the things we do and don’t do.

 

Questions worth asking ourselves…

 

Q. What is the true origin of Halloween?

Q. What does the Bible say about the occult or witchcraft?

A. Deuteronomy 18:10-14, Galatians 5:19-21, Revelation 22:15

 

Q. What about adopting the customs of a fallen world?

A. Deuteronomy 18:9, Leviticus 18:24-30, Romans 12:2

 

Q. What about innocently practicing Halloween “just for fun?”

A. IThessalonians. 5:21b-22, James 4:4, ICorinthians 8:12-13

 

Q. As Christians, do we have any options re: Halloween?

A. Yes, we can…

1. Abstain from anything that dishonors God or glorifies our enemy

2. Redeem the holiday by celebrating God and reaching others (e.g. a “Harvest Festival”)
