The call to intercessory prayer for others

Jesus goes to the gentile region of Tyre and Sidon...he tries to do so quietly without being notice. Of course, the word gets out and one woman knows his reputation for healing and deliverance comes and begs Jesus to free her daughter from an evil spirit. She intercedes on her daughter's behalf. Jesus is abrupt and even rude...but this woman shows two remarkable traits of true intercessory...she is humble and persists until Jesus grants her requests. Likewise, we should follow her example and intercede for others to come to the saving knowledge of Christ and remain humble, patience, and persistent until we see God's answer...do not become discouraged. God's time is not ours but it always right.

Holy Scripture God's Truth

The Bible, Holy Scripture, is God's inspired Word. It is God's truth pure and simple. We are told in Deut. 4:1-9 not to add to it or take any thing away from it...but over the centuries both has happened. The Pharisees added to the Word and today we take away from it. Both is a rejection of God's Word and is spiritually dangerous.

Choose today who you will serve

In both the Old Testament and the New Testament there came a time to chose what path you will take. In the Old Testament Joshua put that question to the Israelites. In the New Testament, as Jesus teaches his disciples who He is and what that means, the teaching becomes too hard for some and they leave. Jesus asks the twelve if they too will leave as some have done. Throughout our life, God puts the question to us each day. Who will we serve? Who will we follow? We may believe we make these decisions in a vacuum but we don't. We are influenced by our fallen and sinful human flesh, the peer pressure of this world, and the enemy of God. We are in the midst of a great spiritual war and if we are not armored up and immersed in God's Word we will make bad choices with eternal consequences.

Receiving Christ through Communion

This sermon deals with the difference between physical eating and spiritual feeding via the sacrament of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. One is simply for physical existence the other is for eternity.

The Call of repentance and the need for discipline

With every call there is a challenge. In general we are called to confront our sin and repent and turn to God. Clergy are called not only to identify sin and issue a call for repentance but are charged to take action and discipline people as the need to arise. This can and is costly at times.
