Eyes to See
In the Transfiguration the Divine Glory of God is revealed through Christ. Similarly, God's glory is revealed in the taking of Elijah into heaven. Elisha sought a double portion of Elijah's anointing. Elijah told him if Elisha saw his going, then he would receive the desire of his heart, but this would only happen if he had the spiritual awareness and eyes to see. As we enter Lent, the question for us is do we see the Divinity of God as revealed in Christ and likewise is His glory shining through us.

Jesus continues to teach with power and authority and we learn more about the marks of a disciple of Christ
We remind ourselves how last week Jesus taught with power and authority in a manner different than the Jews commonly experienced. We learn that the first mark of a Christian Disciple is that when Jesus calls us we leave all behind to follow Him. As we read further in Mark's Gospel, Jesus continues to teach with power and authority. He heals Simon's mother-in-law, minister to many in the town, goes off to spiritual refresh Himself with God the Father and then goes on continue proclaiming His message. From Isaiah 40:21-31, we learn the second mark of a disciple is that we stop trying to control everything but wait upon the Lord. And from 1 Corinthians 9:16-23, we learn that the fourth mark of a disciple is to become whatever we must to share the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ with others.

Jesus' Authority Revealed in Power
Jesus goes to the synagogue and teaches from the Holy Scripture as one with authority not like the scribes. The people are amazed. They are amazed even more when Christ reveals his authority through powerful action as he commands an unclean spirit possessing a person in the assembly to be quiet and come out. The people are amazed. The Church today rarely speaks clearly with authority, and it is even more rare to see God's power manifested as Christ did, but this is what the Church is called to do and be. Only when the authority of God is manifested and revealed in powerful action does the reality of God impact our lives and real transformation is realized.

Discipleship
In the Gospel of Mark, John preaches a baptism of repentance. Jesus has come to be baptized by John. The Holy Spirit has anointed Jesus. Jesus is lead into the wilderness to be tempted by the Satan. Jesus has succeeded. It is now time to begin His ministry. He begins to call His disciples. So, what does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? What is the difference between being a believer and being a disciple.
