1 John 1: The Christian's Bar of Soap
0 Amens
In 1 John 1 the apostle begins to warn his readers against the false teachers who are trying to drag them away from the true gospel. John reminds them of that which they have heard from the beginning--and that it's still true!
The chapter climaxes with one of the most comforting verses in the whole Bible: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1:9).
One pastor called this the Christian's bar of soap. We should find great comfort in the fact that Jesus died for us and made us acceptable to God by his sacrifice on the cross--not by anything we did.
