Sex and the City of God: Purity
0 Amens
How on does Jesus expect his followers to live in a hyper-sexualized world? Today, billboards have more porn than Playboy did when it started. Paul the Apostle shows us God's mind in 1 Thessalonians 4, where he challenges us to control our bodies, avoid sexual immorality (porneia in Greek) and live in holiness and honor. While sex is great and God is pro-sex and he wired us to be sexual creatures, any sexual gratification outside of the heterosexual marriage covenant is porneia.
This message compels us to go to Christ for grace and help. Nobody is immune to sexual sin. As Jesus calls his church to a holy calling, this is perhaps most evident in the area of sexuality and relationships--how we control our bodies, minds and hearts.
