The Return From Exile

When our life seems to be spinning out of control, it can be easy to assume that it's because God has lost control of things. But is that really true? Does God ever lose control? As we open to the first chapter of Ezra, we are going to find that just the opposite is true. God is sovereign and not only knows the end of things from the beginning, but has planned the end of things from the beginning. And the Book of Ezra reminds us of how God demonstrated His sovereignty over the events of His people, Israel.

Ezra: Intro

Self-Control

When Paul lists "self-control" as a Fruit of the Spirit, it's easy for us to misunderstand what he means. After all, it includes the word "self", which gives us the idea that this is something that we have to do, and "control", which makes us think that this is something we need to have mastery over. But is that what he's really talking about? As we wrap up our series on the Fruit of the Spirit, we are going to dig into how all of the 9 fruits Paul lists, including "self-control" are supposed to be produced in our lives.

Gentleness

When we think of the word "gentleness", we often think of someone who is soft spoken, someone who others can take advantage of, someone who is weak. And yet, Paul lists this as a Fruit of the Spirit: as a quality of Jesus that He produces in us as we surrender our life to Him. So what does that kind of gentleness look like in the life of Jesus and in the life of the believer?

Faithfulness

When we go through difficult times, it can be hard to know if God is really faithful to be there for us. But when we look at what Jesus went through before going to the cross, we can learn something about God's faithfulness to us that should help us in our most difficult times. And when we look at the way Jesus responds to the Father, we can learn something about what God's faithfulness in us can look like, too.
