An Encouraging Word Part 2
The letter reflects a pastor’s heart for his people who not only shared a common faith in Jesus Christ but also a common struggle. The difficulty faced by these “scattered saints” (“pilgrims of the Dispersion”) is a difficulty that we still face today. The basic problem is how to maintain the integrity and power of a positive testimony as we live for Jesus Christ in the midst of a society that is ignorant of Biblical Truth and doubtful of the God who gave us the Truth (Jesus Christ).

The Colossians had been led to believe that Jesus was either not really a man or not really God both of which would have disqualified him from fulfilling the requirements for our salvation.

Jesus > Church Politics
Too often in the church we think that we are in control. Church leaders often get the idea that the church belongs to them and that they are the ones calling the shots. Paul resonating with Peter is putting the leadership of the church directly on the shoulders of the one who is THE Senior Pastor (1 Peter 5:4). The opinion of many new and non-Christians is that the church is too political and in many cases they are correct. The job of every Christian is to follow THE Chief Shepherd (Jesus) and allow the life that He lives out corporately through us to reflect his Love, Grace, Truth, and Mission. Jesus promised to build His Church on Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Son of God. As Christians we are not building our church or our Kingdom we are merely following Jesus as He builds his Church through us!

Holistic Christian Living
Are there sections in our lives? Is there a time for church and a time for work? Do we “work God in to our schedule?” Do we give him a percentage of our time in the busy pie-chart that is our lives? Today I would like for all of us to see that the point isn’t trying to give God a majority of our time or more time than any other one thing in the pie chart. Rather we must be always only about living in communion with the Trinity and displaying the very life of Christ to those around us.
