An Easter Encounter

Luke 24:13-35

The story of the encounter of Jesus Christ with two travelers on the Emmaus road is not just another story of an appearance of Jesus Christ after He rose from the dead. Rather, it is a real life story pointing to how the risen Lord Jesus Christ continues to encounter people traveling along life’s highway. This encounter takes place later in the day of the Resurrection a short distance from Jerusalem on the road to a small village called Emmaus. Two deeply disappointed men are walking home discussing current events and trying to make sense of the things that they had seen and heard. Jesus joins them on their journey and asks them why they are sad. In an attempt to “educate” this stranger (Jesus) to the tragic events of the past few days, they themselves have their eyes, their minds, and their hearts opened to the life-changing news that Jesus has risen from the dead. Jesus met these men “on the road” of life and addressed the needs of their hearts and lives. This Easter encounter changed the course of their lives and met their “heart” needs. Today the risen Savior, Jesus Christ, is still encountering people on the road of life and meeting their inmost needs!
