Declaring the Glory of God

Declaring God’s Glory

Luke 1:26-38

The Psalmist announced that “the heavens declare the glory of God” and he goes on to describe the handiwork with which God reveals His glory (Psalm 19). As we consider Old Testament scripture we see God’s glory declared in many and varied ways including His creation, His character and nature, His relationship with men and women, and His works of their behalf. Isaiah wrote that all of the blessings of God are designed to lead to the declaration of God’s glory (Isaiah 60:21). Of course, the greatest declaration of God’s glory is found and experienced in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Advent of Jesus Christ was a significant declaration of God’s glory and Jesus, himself, identified the fact that His purpose was to glorify God in His life and ministry. Peter spoke of this declaration in his first letter when he said “that in all things may God be glorified in Christ” (I Peter 4:11). As we consider the first Advent, we have a classic picture of the declaration of God’s glory as Christ is born to sacrifice His life for the salvation of mankind. We also see that we are commanded to “declare the glory of God with one mind and one mouth” (Romans 15:6). This Christmas season is a great time to function with purpose… as a witness let us live in such a way that our lives declare the glory of God!
