God’s Special People
I Peter 2:4-10
It is much easier to lay aside malice, deceit, envy and evil speaking when we are “constantly” feeding on the pure Truth of the Word of God. Once we have “tasted the good Word of God” (Heb. 6:5) it is impossible to find satisfaction any where else. If we desire the Word and drink it in abundantly we grow spiritually and find it easier to put off the old nature and its behaviors. As we “come to Jesus” – touching the Living Stone – we live and touch others and so the “spiritual house” is built. We serve in His courts as “a holy priesthood offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God”. Believers whose lives are built upon the “chief cornerstone” fulfill a role of ministry to both God and to the world. This role is described in our text today – we are “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation” and the “people of God”. These privileges carry with them one big responsibility: revealing the praises of God to a lost world. This praise ascends to Him (Jesus) “who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light”.
