The Ascension of Jesus Christ
0 Amens
Acts 1:9-11
Our text today is an historical account of the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ. While this is the most detailed account, the Ascension of Christ was so important that it is mentioned no less than 20 times in the Gospels [i.e. Mark 16:19; Luke 24:51] and Acts [Acts 1:9; 3:21]. Using 13 different words or expressions to describe it, the Word of God gives rich spiritual significance to the Ascension and it cannot be overlooked. The Apostle Paul states emphatically his belief in the Ascension in Ephesians 4:10 and identifies its purpose of exalting Jesus Christ to His present position of “filling all things. The Ascension of Jesus Christ means that we now have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the Righteous. We have a Mediator in Heaven, a great High Priest, who is touched with the feelings of our infirmities and One who is willing and able to minister on our behalf. As the old hymn puts it
Lifted up was He to die,
It is finished, was His cry,
Now in Heaven exalted high,
Hallelujah! What a Saviour.
Hallelujah! What a Saviour
