2 Samuel 2:12-3:39 - Promise Rules
1 Amens
David is in Hebron as the King of Judah and Ish-bosheth has been set up as the King of Israel by Abner (Saul's Commander) for personal gain.
Fallen Condition Focus (FCF): The Failure of so-call strong men to set up and control kingdoms.
Gospel Condition Focus (GCF): Abner's failures and Joab's sin show that the promises of God's kingdom are stronger than the minipulation of men and their plans.
Purpose: That you will Seek God's Kingdom as your first priority.
Theme: God's Kingdom is really your best advantage.
Question: What are some wrong ways to relate to the Kingdom of God?
3 wrong ways to relate to the Kingdom of God
I. Don't seek God's kingdom by your strength, force, or control (2:12-32)
II. Don't seek God's Kingdom for your earthly advantage (3:1-11)
III. Don't seek God's Kingdom for position or your vendettas (3:12-39)
Conclusion: this partial fulfillment of God's kingdom should encouarage us to trust that God's Kingdom will eventually come to pass in its fulness. There will be a day when the Kingdom of this world will become the Kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ (Rev. 2:8-9)
