2 Samuel 2:1-11 - A Tale of 2 Kingdoms

One needs to understand the importance of humility in leadership. This passage shows a contrast in a leaders who power is based on Humility (David) and one whose power is based on human pride and autonomy. David seeks God in his efforts to rule and while Abner and Ishbosheth seek only their own Advantage in their efforts to rule. David is a great type of a christian who that those who trust God must be humble by acknowledge sinfulness and weakness through an intimate relationship with God in prayer.

2 Samuel 1:17-27 - Good Grief

In this passage David is expressing grief in a structured way so that it may be remembered and taught to the people especially his military men. Ecc. 7:2-4 shows also that sadness packs a punch that frivolity cannot muster. It is important to remember one's losses in a way that motivates you to walk with God and into intercessory prayer for others. The greater love you have for God, the greater grief you will experience in the trials and tribulations of God's people. But know that nothing can separate you from the Love of God as a Christian (Rom. 8:35-39).

2 Samuel 1:1-16 - Kingdom Principles

This book is not just about David but more properly it is about a covenant God who makes covenant promices to a covenant king through whom he will preserve a covenant people. In the begining of this book an Amalekite thought david would want to gain the kingdom in any way possible (no scruples). But David did not want power for himself by denying God's principles, commands, and precepts. He knew that faithfulness to Kingdom Principles is where real authority comes from. God will be faith to give him the kingdom if he is faithful to kingdom Principles for living
