How Do I Pray Unselfishly for Myself and Others?

We are constantly bombarded my images from marketers asking us and encouraging us to caters to our every want.
  • Diamonds are forever (DeBeers)
  • Just do it (Nike)
  • Tastes great, less filling (Miller Lite)
  • Breakfast of champions (Wheaties)
  • We bring good things to life (General Electric)
  • The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection (Lexus)

As we conclude this time of learning of learning how to pray and deepening our prayer lives, we get down to this issue of want vs. need.

Are we praying for what we really need to get by or are we using prayer as a means to pursuing advertisers’ images of the perfect life?

How do we faithfully pray for ourselves & others in an unselfish way?

2. Mark 5:21-34
  • broken health care system (waiting endlessly in hospital)
  • there was something different about her touch
  • Jesus affirms the woman and includes her in the community that is seeking health and restoration. Jesus affirms those who seek out the means to being made whole.

3. My spouse is wrapping up her studies in psychology. “I’m not going to try harder at this than you.” If you are not willing to engage this process, there is very little I can do for you.

John 5:1-9
  • Jesus asks if we want to be well
  • We can say all the right prayers, but it the person who is ill or suffering doesn’t desire to be well those prayers are for naught.
  • God does not force wellness upon us.

4.We have the obligation to pray for others and their well being/needs.
