Barriers
WHAT ARE THEY?
Pastor Mark Johnson
October 11, 2009
Matthew 17:14-20
“I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not do it”. – Do you see the barrier? It is the line between what is happening and the promise of God.
Barriers - the spiritual forces that stand between us and the promise of God.
Is there something in your life that is far from the promise and plan of God?
I. The great lesson: The Father had not given up.
In all of our lives, the enemy wants to set up strongholds or barriers to the promises of God. Some are harder to get out of our lives than others.
Let’s explore a few possibilities and let the Spirit of God speak to us.
-
Marriage
-
Raising our children
-
Lost loved ones
-
Pornography
-
Fear
-
Bitterness
-
Emotional distress
If you are not careful, you can just begin to accept them as the way life is.
II. The problem: Some of these barriers will not be broken without effort.
There are some issues that we will face that are not just common spiritual battles, but are great spiritual battles.
III. The promise: Nothing will be impossible for you.
Matthew 17:20
Your barrier is not too big for God.
IV. The tale of two kings.
1 Samuel 10:5-6, 1 Samuel 17:10-11, 1 Samuel 17:32
This week’s assignment: Pray for God to reveal the barriers in your life.
-
Look up scriptural promises.
-
Begin to pray.
The greatest barrier of all was between God and man. But, the curtain was torn and we can now meet with God and be healed.
