Easter Service 2017 // April 16, 2017 // CAPSTONE CHURCH SERVICE

Today, on Easter Sunday, Senior Pastor Parkey Cobern takes a different look at salvation and the significance of Jesus’ rising from death on our life today!

The resurrection of Jesus reveals the power and authority of God. Even though it was obvious that the Jewish people and people of Israel did not want Him there, God inserted Himself into human history and lived a life as a man, so He could portray His power over sin and death! Just as He chose when and how He came to earth as Jesus, so He has a plan of when and where and how He will reveal Himself to you.

When we die, we are no longer controlled by sin. We have passed and cannot return to our foul habits and bad life decisions; it’s finished and we are either in heaven or hell. Christ died without sin, and so He took our sin on Himself and died our death. Just as a dead person is no longer controlled by sin, so is a person dead to sin when they accept Christ in their life because He has already died to it for us! Just as we die in Christ, so we also live in Him afterwards!

Because Christ died for your salvation, He paid for your freedom from the guilt of past sins and freedom from the punishment of those sins; freedom from judgement and hell as an instrument of that judgement; freedom from sin’s control in this life and us “missing the mark.” God lived and breathed as Jesus on this earth, and experienced the hardships and temptations that we do; He came to deliver the world! When we accept Christ as Lord, our old life dies and a new person is spiritually born. Jesus is not addicted to sin, and so neither are we, so we must continue to believe that liberty in Jesus kills our old self, and all temptations come from the enemy! If we succumb to the temptations of the enemy, we are trying to bring life to a dead thing; let it die and let it go.
