Contender or Pretender

Esau sells his birthright. Life is filled with numerous choices. You can choose to hold true to your faith or you can choose to compromise. When we choose to compromise we are selling what is rightfully ours - our blessing from God, our path to making a vital impact for the kingdom of God, those things that He has entrusted us with. Esau sold out and it cost him a place in the lineage of the Messiah.

I can't wait!

Sermon begins at the 24:10 mark so if you'd like fast forward to avoid the announcements. The difficulty with waiting is that we must .......... wait. Waiting is a nasty word in our society. In fact if we have to wait we start throwing a tantrum. McDonald's and Walmart are symptomatic and contribute to this pain. There is purpose in waiting; Sometimes we must wait so God can prepare us for what lies ahead. Sometimes He makes me wait to work on some weakness I have. Sometimes He makes me wait to strengthen my faith. Sometimes He makes me wait to benefit those who are watching my life. Sometimes He makes me wait to give me the best not just the adequate. Sometimes He makes me wait for reasons only He knows. We must be careful to not run ahead of God.

To God the Glory

The military is always coming up with a slogan or some jargon to motivate people. It helps keep the mission in mind. When I went into Chaplains school we had to come up with a chant that would remind us of who we were and our mission. Our class came up with the chant, “To God the Glory.” It was a well crafted statement that summed up our mission. How can I bring glory to God? What is our Christian mission and how do we accomplish it? Peter was compelled to encourage this group of believers on the path. He has been forewarning them of the certainty of pain, suffering, trials and tribulations. Despite the trouble in their lives, he challenged them to persevere for the kingdom. He was telling them, “You will have trouble here, your reward is in heaven, and this is just a trial run.” The challenge is to live a life, despite the situation, that brings glory to God. How can I live a life that brings honor to God? If we keep our mission in mind it helps. What are the objectives of the person that brings honor and glory to God? To live a life that brings glory to God, we must practice these three objectives: 1. Live a life of faithful service, 2. Live a life of humble honor. 3. Live a life of watchful holiness. When we bring honor to God, He sustains us. How can I live a life that brings honor to God?
