A Holy Endeavor

In 1 Timothy the Apostle Paul warns Timothy to guard against false teachers. In this section we learn that certain ones of the faith will withdraw from the faith, following false teaching. Amidst this warning Paul reminds us that every created thing of God is excellent, and nothing is rejected that is taken with thanksgiving. We learn that through the word of God and Prayer everything is made holy.

A Radical Freedom

In Chapter 5 the Apostle Paul comes to the obvious conclusion of the arguments he has been presenting up to this point. That conclusion is that it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. In chapter 5 Paul reveals that we are to stand firm in our faith in the grace of Christ and not to put on again the yoke of slavery to works of the law. In fact he tells the Galatians that if they receive circumcision they are severed from Christ!

A Divine Allegory

At the end of chapter 4 The Apostle Paul takes a different approach with the Galatians. He uses the allegorical method in interpreting the Genesis 21 account of Hagar and Sarah. We learn from this divine allegory that those who seek salvation in the flesh are children of Hagar and those who receive it by faith through promise are children of Sarah. The Galatians are commanded to cast out the slave woman and her child which implies the Law and the law-keepers.

Love one another

Up to this point in Galatians Paul has been leveling argument after argument in favor of his Gospel of Grace, against the message of Works. At this point the Apostle Paul no longer appeals to the Galatians minds, but to their hearts as he reminds them of the love THEY had for him. Pauls confusion over the Galatians is based on their own testimony and works of love on his behalf. How could they who professed Christ and loved Paul so much return back to the Law?

Purpose of the Law Part Two

In Galatians 4 Paul brings to a conclusion his argument regarding our adoption as sons and solidifies his point that we are no longer slaves, but heirs. If we are heirs we have no reason to return to the weak and worthless elementary principles such as circumcision, or the observance of days, months, and years. As heirs we are trained by law but not condemned by the law.

Children of God

The Apostle Paul ends chapter 3 of Galatians with an astonishing conclusion. He says that we are Children of God by faith. The implications of this statement in the New Testament are astounding. No longer does Paul quibble over whether we are associated w/Abraham, he explains that we are all Children of God by faith.

Purpose of the Law

When Paul tells the people that salvation is by promise and not by the law, the inevitable question is raised “Why Then the Law”. Paul answers that question and another important questions “Is the Law then Contrary to the promises?” Paul shows us that the Law is not contrary to the promise but directly in line w/the Promise pointing to it and driving men to the curse or trust in the promise by faith.

Covenant Keepers

As with man made covenants, God's covenants can not be added to or taken away from orelse he proves himself to be untrustworthy, insincere, double-tongued and a liar. When God made his covenant with Abraham he could not turn around and annul that promise with future revelation like the Law of Moses! We too, like our God, need to learn to be covenant keepers!

Blessing and Curse

In Galatians 3:9-14 Paul tells us that we are blessed along with Abraham the man of faith. We also learn that the Law and Faith are two diametrically opposed systems of salvation. This makes it utterly impossible for the saints of the O.T. to have been saved by the Law. Indeed if a Law had come that brought blessing, then Christ died for no purpose! In this sermon Pastor Jeremy brings to a close his explanation of why the Dispensational distinction between Israel and the Church is a problem when we read this section of Galatians.

Father Abraham

There is a debate going on in the world of theology between two camps: Dispensational Theology and Reformed (or Covenant) Theology. In this message Pastor Lundmark shows how the Israel Church Distinction is incompatible with Galatians 3:7-9. We learn that it is those of faith who are children of Abraham, not the children of the flesh. Also, Pastor Lundmark shows that while the Dispensationalist believes there was not enough revelation for the Old Testament saints to believe in the Gospel, the New Testament clearly shows that the gospel was preached even to Abraham and that the people in Jesus day new the redeemer of Israel was coming! In this message Pastor Lundmark deals with what he calls "the most important debate of our day".
