Displaying the Worth of the Gospel: The Gospel shines upon Europe - Philippians Intro Part 2

We look to the example laid out for us by Paul and Silas as they were on the second missionary journey and planting the church at Philippi. From their example we see them displaying the worth of Gospel as they trusted God adventurously to go to new lands, new cultures, new areas where the Gospel needed to progress.

Displaying the Worth of the Gopsel: An introduction to the Book of Philippians

As we start our study in the book of Philippians, it is good to consider and be warned about how easy it is to stray away from valuing the goodness and glory of the Gospel. It is good to consider whether we are just desiring the fruits of the Gospel rather than the Gospel itself: a restored marriage, a cleaned up life, a balanced home budget, etc. versus forgiveness of sin and peace with God. Simply put, it is good to consider how easy it is to leave our first love of Christ Himself.

Grace Abounds Still Yet More

As we finish the book of Ruth we are brought to consider the end or goal of all histories and all stories: God's coming Redeemer. The author of the book of Ruth draws the attention of the readers beyond the sphere of God's lovingkindnesses to Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz as individuals, to God's lovingkindnesses to the nation of Israel when they were in the dark ages of their history, and finally to a coming redeemer who would come after David. The One who will sit on the throne of David forever.

Greater Than We Can Imagine: Our Sinfulness and the Greatness of the Savior

This Easter we considered the blessing it is that Jesus was resurrected from the dead. Because He died for sinners and was raised from the dead, we also have confidence and hope that we too can be raised. If we have placed our hope in Christ and Christ alone, then our identity is wondrously linked with Christ. Even though we are dead in our trespasses and sins, if we turn to Christ in faith, we will be made alive together with Him, be raised with Him, and seated with Him in the heavenly places. Though our sins our great, greater than we can imagine, the Savior, Jesus Christ, is all the greater!
