Grace in a Time of Need

In Chapter 3, we get a view into the lives of Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz and how hope in God's Word and His promises fosters hope and actions toward giving grace to others in their time of need. God is a God who sits upon a throne of grace ready to give to those who come mercy and grace to help in time of need. As we continue to unfold the story of the book of Ruth, we continue to see God pouring out His grace through Naomi, Ruth and Boaz to one another as an encouragement for us to keep hoping in God who gives grace to those who seek refuge under God's wing in their time of need and to be used of God to be a giver of God's grace to others in their time of need.

Seeking Refuge under the Wings of God: Grace and Humility not Wages and Rights - Part 2

God continues to demonstrate His over the top grace in and through the interchange between Ruth and Boaz at the barley field. Ruth demonstrates the unswerving, tough, and hardworking trust in God as she gleans in Boaz's field. She seeks refuge under God's wing as she entrusts herself to His Word. Boaz demonstrates the heart of God who is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness and truth as he not only obeys God's Word in a spiritually dark time in Israelite history, but also goes beyond the letter of the Law and carries out the spirit of the Law in his protecting and providing generosity. All of these demonstrations of grace are God continuing to be faithful to His promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as He continues His lovingkindnesses to Naomi.

Seeking Refuge under the Wings of God: Grace and Humility not Wages and Rights

God is unfolding his good plan for good and His glory layer by layer. We see that God’s goodness comes to those who come to seek refuge under His wing. The goodness of God may not feel like you expect, look like what you expect, come in a way that you expect, or at a time that you expect, or in the amount that you expect. Although you might not understand or be able to perceive the goodness of God by yourself, God’s goodness surely comes to those who seek refuge under God’s wing in way that is far exceedingly better than they could ever conceive.

Lessons from Happenstance and Gleaning

When considering all that happens in life, the amazing truth that God is in sovereignly wise control of all those happenings is a great confidence. This confidence comes when we glory/make our boast/treasure/value God and being with Him as our greatest blessing. It reorients and puts into perspective every up and down of life, every twist and turn, and every trial. We also can learn much from God's command for the nation of Israel to not harvest to the very edges of their fields for themselves but to leave provision for the gleaners. With the money, abilities, spiritual gifts, time, and especially the mercy that has been given to us, are we harvesting these resources and blessings only for ourselves or are we making provisions for those in need around us, those in need of our time, our gifts, and God's mercy.

It just so happened....right?

Often times we are blinded by the circumstances of life, whether easy or hard, from seeing the goodness of God working in and through our lives. Often we are like Naomi as she is returning to Bethlehem and we are oblivious to the kind hand of God who has not only led us through the storm, but also has provided for our every need, though painful and bitter be the path. We find that God is the God of every happenstance and He is right in the middle of every circumstance of our life, even the most painful and most trying ones, working for the good of our lives, the lives of others in our lifetime and or other beyond our lifetime, and the good of which we are not even close to being smart enough to understand.
