A Royal Priesthood

Patrick preached about the priesthood of believers, that all Christians are called to ministry. He cautioned against thinking too much of vocational ministry. He also spoke about spiritual gifts, and the importance of sharing responsibility based on our gifting. He encouraged people to look for gifts in others, and to listen carefully when someone tells us our gifting, because others are often better at spotting gifts than we are ourselves.

The Heart of the Matter

Gordon preached on the heart, and how it is not what enters the heart, but what comes from it that defiles. It's possible to do the "right" thing and still be wrong. It's not what enters that defiles; actions are just symptoms of where our hearts are. "The heart of the matter is that your heart matters more to Jesus than your actions."

What's your view of the Bible?

Bill Bonham preached from a selection of scriptures including Deut 30:19, Isaiah 40:29-31, John 15:11, 1 Cor 2:9, Phil 3:13, and Luke 12:31, about the significance of the Bible and the various messages it holds. He also shared many of the attributes of God that are found in scripture.

Let Us Pray

Bill spoke about prayer and how we should practice it daily. As we pray we should pray as if we are talking to a friend, because Jesus is a friend to us. When we pray, Jesus is the one who answers our prayers, and the Spirit prays with us on our behalf. Sometimes God does not answer our prayers in the way we expect or want, but he always answers them and always makes all things work for our good.

Lasting Assumptions

Dustin preached on the assumptions that we make about our life, and how God is bigger than the limits that we place on ourselves, knowingly or otherwise. Sometimes we assume we know what God has planned for us, but his plans often shatter our assumptions completely. It's better to look to him to lead than to assume we know his will. In the same way, we make assumptions about others that reduce them to their talents, and in doing so, we miss out on relationship with them.
