The Purpose of God According to Election-Part 7 - I Will Do All That I Please
Before the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was placed in the midst of the Garden of Eden by God, it was the one place and the one time in all of human history where we can safely say that there was no possibility for any autonomous moral human decision. God placed the tree in the garden and then gave the command, all the time knowing that Adam and Eve would fail. He did not decree their failure. He merely provided the means for moral autonomy and then relaxed His grip so that the fall would happen. Why did he do this?

The Purpose of God According to Election-Part 6, The Right of the Potter
Romans Chapter Nine details a deep line of reasoning on the subject of Election. Paul is painfully reminded that his brothers (Israel) are now on the outside-looking-in. All of chapter nine, through the end of chapter eleven, is about one thing; the specific utilitarian purpose of God’s election of the Jewish people. There are a series of progressive questions asked (and answered) in Romans nine, providing a clear perspective of something otherwise confusing and discouraging. Paul takes what is personally painful, and shows it to be what it is; a thing of beauty.

The Purpose of God According to Election Part 2 - The Election Controversy of the Early Church
The doctrine of election is a grand and powerful Christian paradigm. It’s also one of the most neglected subjects in the church. That’s because no subject has generated such controversy and division. The nature of the election question is much different today, (in the Gentile Church), than it was in the early Church. The ecclesiastical center of the early Church was in Jerusalem. For the first several years it was strictly a Jewish Church, married to Jewish laws and customs. Paul (the Apostle to the Gentiles) found his greatest struggle with the controversy of the election of the Gentiles. Gentiles were not even included in the church until Peter had a vision in the home of Simon the Tanner; eight years after the ascension of Christ. There were two phases to the controversy: First – whether or not Gentiles can be Christians, (Acts 10) and second – whether or not believing Gentiles can be saved without following the law of Moses. (Acts 15) - Paul won the debate at the Jerusalem Counsel. But this controversy would follow him all throughout his ministry with persecution from legalistic believers who followed him from church to church with their poison. Eph 1:4-5, 2 Tim 1:9-10, Rom 9:3-5, Eph 1:9-10, Eph 3:3-6, Acts 10:1-28, Acts 15:1-20 Gal 2:11-21

The Purpose of God in Election Part 1 - A Good Question
The doctrine of Election is a grand and powerful Christian paradigm. It’s also one of the most neglected subjects in the church. That’s because no subject has generated such controversy and division. In this message Pastor LaChance welcomes the discussion into the Christian Hill Community while setting the rules for the tone of the debate. The smug, elitist, anathematizing spirit that so often accompanies the discussion of Election will not be tolerated. John Wesley spoke directly to tone of the discussion surrounding the Systematic Theology of Election when he said - "Hard to be understood" we may well allow them to be, when we consider how men of the strongest understanding, improved by all the advantages of education, have continually differed in judgment concerning them. And this very consideration, that there is so wide a difference upon the head between men of the greatest learning, sense, and piety, one might imagine would make all who now speak upon the subject exceedingly wary and self-diffident. But I know not how it is, that just the reverse is observed in every part of the Christian world. No writers upon earth appear more positive than those who write on this difficult subject. Nay, the same men, who, writing upon any other subject, are remarkably modest and humble, on this alone lay aside all self-distrust.”
