Take Heed What You Hear

What are you listening to? Jesus said “Take heed what you hear.” One translation reads, “Consider carefully what you hear.” In the quietness of our meditations our thoughts reveal the true nature of our listening habits. Our minds take the raw materials of our listening, studying, and practicing, and create something beautiful or something ugly. 

Many have ears like the trash can in the doctor’s office; you step on the foot-press and the lid flies open to receive the trash. It’s amazing how undisciplined we can be with regard to what we hear. Jesus is telling us that we have a choice. We don’t have to receive that gossip, or grumbling, or negativity. We can stop and ask the Lord, “Does this please you my savior?” We can weigh what we hear and think against God’s word.
