Order in Worship

"Wow, the Spirit was really moving today!" Have you ever said that about a worship service? Have you ever heard that? Well, what does it mean for the Spirit to move in a gathering of the church? Some argue outward expressions, emotional experiences, and an abundance of "results" all mean the Spirit is at work. Yet, Paul tells the Corinthian church that order in worship not chaos and confusion are evidence that the Spirit of God is present in a might way. Listen as pastor Jody Sledge challenges us to seek order in our worship of God.

Building Up the Body

Without understanding trouble can come easily. And this was exactly the case with the Corinthian church. There were those with the gift of tongues that were bringing confusion and chaos to the church. Listen as pastor Jody Sledge explains the gifts of prophecy and tongues and calls us as a church to seek above all to build up the body.

Nothing Without Love

"Dearly beloved we are gathered here today ..." It would probably be hard to find someone who has never heard 1 Corinthians 13 read at a wedding. This is the great chapter on love. And while a marriage is surly to be union of love, Paul did not write this chapter so we could have something to read at weddings. Paul wrote the chapter because the Corinthian church - and our church too - faced the temptation of being an unloving people. They were valuing their gifts, their freedoms, their position in the church over love. And Paul writes to set them - and us too - straight. Listen as pastor Lance Parrott challenges us to see that without love we as a church are nothing.

A Body with Many Parts

No man is an island. With this opening line from his famous poem, John Donne understood something that many today simple do not. He understood that no person can live in complete isolation from other people. It's not good. It's not healthy. It's not possible. We live in a culture where the individual is king. We celebrate the self-made man or women. We wave the banner of self-independence. Yet, for Christians this is a toxic idea. We have been saved to be part of the people of God. We are not independent of one another. We are all part of the body of Christ. Listen as pastor Jody Sledge challenges us to see that because we are a single body with many parts, we belong to one another, we need one another, and we should support one another.
