Let’s be honest… the 5th Commandment has been used as a weapon by parents for centuries. Our kids step out of line and we are so quick to drop the biblical hammer and say, “The Bible says to honor your father and mother, so if you don’t want to be in trouble with Jesus, you better do what I say!” Just for clarity, that is not the intent of Commandment #5! This weekend Pastor Scott Hadfield (our Children’s Pastor) and I “reverse engineer” the fifth commandment with some straight talk to parents – and to the kid in all of us.
