Hurricane Devotion/Update

While we wait to assess damages and begin to rebuild, we also wait confidently on the LORD, whose goodness and power brought us through this storm and will ultimately use it to bless his kingdom and his people.

God's plan is to bless

When God suddenly and dramatically moves Joseph from the prison to the palace, it's clear that God was blessing him! But it wasn't always so clear in his life. It's not always so clear in ours. How can we be sure God's not out to harm us, that he's after our good? Joseph's story - and more importantly, Jesus' story - is our proof. Through good and through bad, God is blessing!

There is nothing more valuable than Jesus

We're fascinated with hidden treasure. Maybe it's because we all dream of striking it rich. Jesus draws us in with a story about finding hidden treasure - something more precious than all the world. The treasure is him! But do we treasure him as we ought? Our Savior's words lead us to evaluate what we value most in this life, so that we don't fall away from him by treasuring trinkets in his place...and so that he remains our treasure, and we his, forever.

What to do about the weeds?

Weeds pose a problem for gardeners. They pose a threat to garden plants. That's why we get rid of them as soon as possible! But what about in God's field? Jesus describes the world as God's field, and Christians as wheat living among weeds - unbelievers. It's a scary spiritual environment we live in! What should be done? The Farmer patiently waits for the harvest to separate wheat from weeds - because of his love. He wants not a single soul lost - and in his field, weeds can become wheat!

What kind of hearer are you?

Hearing problems can sneak up on us. That's also true in our relationship with God as we hear his word! With a parable about a farmer sowing seed, Jesus illustrates how God sows his word in human ears and human hearts. But he also leads us to examine how we're hearing and receiving that word - all so he can make us into good soil that produces fruit to his glory and for our joy.
