Principles of Judgement

We have a tendency to think more highly of ourselves than we should; we think we are generally good people. The truth is that sin is a universal problem; it does not discriminate, no matter what kind of wishful thinking might lead us to believe otherwise. When Paul presents a list of sins like in Romans 1:29-31, our first inclination is to think of other people who fit the descriptions. But rarely do we place ourselves at the top of the list. The Jewish Christians in Rome immediately thought of Gentiles and Gentile believers, but in chapter 2, Paul turn the "they into a "you" in order to help them understand that they (and we) are just as much under the impending wrath of God as any.
