#2 - God

#3 - The Queen

Best things in the world:

  • Good Looking
  • Riches
  • Fame

Being fat topped the list of worst things in the world, rising from number three last year.

If I were King/Queen what would I ban?

1 - Divorce

2- Bullying

If kids were in charge, the would be no divorce or bullying.

While Simon Cowell might be famous, kids in trouble look for more than TV Distraction.

1.  He Will Be Great

Most Famous Person in history is Jesus

- More Songs Sung (etc ... cf Vintage Jesus)

2.  Son of the Most High

100% divine. Same substance as God

  • Jesus came down from heaven
    • For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. (John 6:38)
  • Jesus was more than a "good man"
    • Killed him for claiming to be equal to God
    • John 5:18 - For this reason the Jews tried all the harder to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
  • Flat out claimed to be God
    • John 8:58-59 I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.

A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said wouldn't be a great moral teacher.  He'd be either a lunatic - on a level with a man who says he's a poached egg - or else he'd be the devil of hell.

You must make your choice.

Either this man was and is the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse...

But don't let us come up with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher.

He hadn't left that open to us.

He didn't intend to. - Lewis, C. S.

Covenant Theology

J. Ligon Duncan WHAT IS COVENANT THEOLOGY?

Covenant theology is the Bible's way of explaining and deepening our understanding of:

(1)   the atonement [the meaning of the death of Christ];

(2)   assurance [the basis of our confidence of communion with God and enjoyment of his promises];

(3)   the sacraments [signs and seals of God's covenant promises - what they are and how they work];

(4)   the continuity of redemptive history [the unified plan of God's salvation].

Genesis 15:7-21 (English Standard Version)

7And he said to him, "I am the LORD who(A) brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans(B) to give you this land to possess." 8But he said, "O Lord GOD,(C) how am I to know that I shall possess it?" 9He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon." 10And he brought him all these,(D) cut them in half, and laid each half over against the other. But(E) he did not cut the birds in half. 11And when birds of prey came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away.

12As the sun was going down, a(F) deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. 13Then the LORD said to Abram, "Know for certain(G) that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and(H) they will be afflicted for(I) four hundred years. 14But(J) I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward(K) they shall come out with great possessions. 15As for yourself, you shall go to your fathers in peace;(L) you shall be buried in a good old age. 16And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for(M) the iniquity of the Amorites(N) is not yet complete."

17When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. 18On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying,(O) "To your offspring I give[a] this land, from(P) the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, 19the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, 20the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, 21the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites and the Jebusites."

4.  Kingdom Will Not End

Basic message "The Kingdom of God is at hand"

Filling of Holy Spirit

  • Luke 1:35 - The Holy Spirit will come upon you
  • Luke 3:16 - I baptize you with water, but he who is mighter than I is coming, the strap of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
  • First sermon
    • Luke 4:18-19
    • 18(A) "The Spirit of the Lord(B) is upon me,
      because he has anointed me
      to(C) proclaim good news to the poor.
      (D) He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
      and(E) recovering of sight to the blind,
      (F) to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
      19(G) to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
  • How does the Kingdom finally come?

6So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord,(A) will you at this time(B) restore the kingdom to Israel?" 7He said to them, (C) "It is not for you to know(D) times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. 8But you will receive(E) power(F) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and(G) you will be(H
