Why I believe in the Bible2 Timothy 3 : 16 Introduction:  2 Timothy 3 : 16-17 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.John 1 : 1 -  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  1.    The Uniformity of the Bible    A. The Bible is a collection of 66 Books      1. Written over 1600 years and 40 generations:      2. Written by approx. 40 authors from every walk of life;      3. Written in different places      4. Written at different times and during different moods      5. Written on three continents, and in three languages      6. The subject matter includes hundreds of controversial topics    B. YET THERE IS HARMONY AND CONTINUITY... 2 Peter 1 : 20-21 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.  21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2.    Scientific Truths In the Bible  A.   Astronomy1)    The number of starts in heaven Jeremiah 33 : 22 - As the host of heaven cannot be numbered, neither the sand of the sea measured: so will I multiply the seed of David my servant, and the Levites that minister unto me.  2)    The Bible says that each Start is Unique 1 Corinthians 15 : 41 - There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory.  3)    The bible describes the movement of the universe Jeremiah 31 : 35 - Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:  4)    The Bible describes the suspension of Earth in Space Job 26 : 7 - He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.  5)    The Bible says that the Earth is Round Isaiah 40 : 22 – “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth….”  B) Meteorology 1)    The Bible describes the circulation of air Ecclesiastes 1 : 6 - The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. C)  Biology 1)    The Bible describes the value of blood Leviticus 17 :11 - For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. 2)    The Bible revealed that mental heath is strongly correlated with physical health Proverbs 12 : 4 - A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. Proverbs 14 : 30 - A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones. D) Hydrology 1)    The Bible describes the evaporation cycleJob 36 : 27-29
 27For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:  28Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.2)     The Bible describes the recirculation of water Ecclesiastes 1 : 7 - All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. 3)    The Bible also describes hydrothermal vents Genesis 7 : 11- ..the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. ·        This is just the tip of the iceberg of the scientific facts that exist in the bible thousands of years before science or man could prove or even accurately hypothesize about this stuff. 

·         How could the men that wrote the bible write with accuracy these scientific truths thousands of years before science proved them??

 

·         The answer is simple – Because this is God’s Word!!!

 3.     The fulfilled prophecies in the Biblea.     The fall of Babylon, written two hundred years before it occurred (Isaiah 13: 17-22)b.    The fall of Egypt, that it would be destroyed more by civil war than by outside forces (Isaiah 19: 1-4)c.      The fulfilled 300+ prophecies of the coming Messiah all filled by Jesus Christ!!  - We will discuss those more next week!! 4.    The impact of the Biblea.     On civilization, music, art, literature, education, judicial systems, and even scienceb.    On individual livesc.      It has transformed my life and the lives of millions (made better spouses, parents, friends, & neighbors)d.    **Could mere men’s writing do all of this?**
