In Times of Trouble Is Christ Being Proclaimed?
Philippians 1:12-18 Have you ever said, "Life's not fair"? Paul had every right to say those words given his circumstances. However, he saw the advancing of the gospel through his imprisonment and rejoiced, even in his trials, because Christ was being proclaimed. How, then, shall we look at troubles and difficulties in our own lives? Let's explore the answers as we continue our study in Paul's letter to the Philippians.

Fellowship is not a Piece of Cake!
Philippians 1:3-11 What is fellowship? Is it simply the gathering of God's people? Or is there a purpose that gives it definition? Let's explore these questions as we look at Paul's letter to the Philippians.

The Privilege of Optimism
Psalm 23 In this well-known and beloved Psalm, David proclaims an extraordinary optimism in the last verse. Set against the backdrop of his day – and ours! – such an optimistic view of life seems rather strange! How can he possibly think that goodness will follow him all his days when he is under the very shadow of death, and surrounded by his enemies? It is clear that his optimistic pronouncement rises out of the providing and protecting presence of His Shepherd. And, the good news is that His Shepherd is our Shepherd too!

The Privilege of God's Family
Psalm 15 To the privileges of God's Son and God's Word, we now add God's Family. But what can be said about those who get to live with God? What do those in God's family look like? How do they act, work, and speak? As we answer these questions from Psalm 15, we are reminded that we're actually taking about us, the family of God at Northpoint. As we face the future, with all of its unknowns, it will only be our character as God's children that will make it true of us that we "will never be shaken" (Psalm 15:5c).

The Privilege of God's Son
Psalm 2 While Psalm 1 described the blessed life of righteous, who delight in God's Word, the headlines of the daily newspaper make clear that the wicked greatly outnumber the righteous. What are we to make of this? Is the battle to re-claim creation for God's glory destined to be lost? Psalm 2 brings great comfort in the person of God's Son, whom we are privileged to know, serve, and proclaim.

The Privilege of God's Word
Psalm 1 Over the next four Sundays we will explore some of the privileges we share as Christ-followers. Today, we look at the privilege that is ours because God has revealed Himself to us in the Bible. Imagine! God's very words, detailing His thoughts, put down in a language that is understandable to us, and preserved for us through the ages. To have the Bible, and to delight in it, is a singular privilege reserved for those that are loved by God in Jesus Christ.

A Time for Peace
Selected Scriptures On this fourth and final Sunday of Advent, we hear at last the declaration of the angelic choir, that with the birth of Messiah, peace has come. But what is this peace? And how is it that a little baby has made this peace a present reality? Today, our prayer is that our time of celebration will once again cause us to delight in the peace–the shalom–that we have from God, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

A Time for Joy
Selected Scriptures The hope of the Old Testament believers was fulfilled in the birth of the Messiah in a cave outside Bethlehem. And, as Isaac Watts declared, this birth brought Joy to the World! In two very different parts of the Christmas story, we see a unifying theme of joy: The shepherds were surprised by it, while the Magi spent months and months seeking it. And ultimately, they all found it in the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. The presence of joy at Christmas reminds us that joy is to be the constant possession of the Christ-follower.

A Time for Love
Selected Scriptures The hope of the Old Testament believers was grounded in their experience of the unchanging love of God. Micah reminded his listeners that their God "delights in unchanging love." Today we explore the love of God which He lavished on our broken world, beginning with the birth of Jesus in a cave outside of Bethlehem.
