Disciples:  The Long Way Home

Mark 1:16-20; 1 Corinthians 6:2-3

"Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world?  And if the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts?  Do you not know that we shall judge angels?  How much more, matters of this life?"   (1 Corinthians 6:2-3)

Introduction:  There is an astonishing amount of fog about being a disciple of Jesus!

Mark 1:16-20 Jesus (& the Father) display great humility in choosing disciples who are...

Humble people (see Acts 4:13)

Broken people (see Luke 3:7-14)

Faith-filled people (see Mark 10:28)

1 Cor 6:2-3 Jesus (& the Father) bestow great dignity upon disciples from multiple perspectives:

The Kingdom of God on planet earth perspective

The Dominion of the New Humanity perspective (Hebrews 2:5-8)

The Reigning & Ruling with Christ perspective (1 Corinthians 6:2-3)

By faith I commit to denying myself and becoming what Jesus would be like if He were me! (Mark 8:31-38)

What "denying myself" does NOT mean:

Not erasing myself ("more of Jesus, less of me")

Not ignoring myself ("my life and desire don't matter")

Not "wormifying" myself ("I'm nothing, I'm nobody, I'm no one")

What "denying myself" does mean:
