Humble Savior, Humbled Demons

Mark 1:21-28

Introduction: Why are there so many incidents of Jesus confronting demons in the gospels?

Mark 1:21-28

Jesus establishes His Messianic authority over Satan and the spirit world through His first exorcism.

Mark 1:21-22

Jesus amazes the synagogue with His authoritative teaching.

Mark 1:23-26

Jesus also amazes them with His Authoritative exorcism of a demonized man.

Note 5 characteristics of this demon that give insights into demons in general:

1.  He is religious (v. 23)

2.  He is an unclean spirit (v. 24)

3.  He has theological insight into Jesus and His purpose (v. 24)

4.  He must submit to Christ's authority (v. 25)

5.  He is destructive to humans (v. 26)

Mark 1:27-28

They stand amazed in the Authoritative Presence of Messiah Jesus!
