Commit yourself

Trust in God to rescue us and complete us.

John 19:30 Jesus ... said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (ESV)

Luke 23:46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" And having said this he breathed his last. (ESV)

Psalms 31

1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.

5 Into your hands I commit my spirit;
redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth. (NIV)

Is my spirit—my life—in God’s hands?

Philippians 1:3-6

3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:3-6 (NIV)

God completes what He starts.

Have I let God begin a good work in me?

Philippians 3:7-9

7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.

8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.

I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. Philippians 3:7-9 (NIV)

Paul had it all together!

To make Christ first in my life,
I have to stop trying to be first.

Philippians 3:10-11

10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:10-11 (NIV)

The power of Christ gets us through this suffering and death. God will complete us by raising us from the dead to live forever with Him.
