Commit yourself

Trust in God to rescue us and complete us.

John 19:30 Jesus ... said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (ESV)

Luke 23:46 Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" And having said this he breathed his last. (ESV)

Psalms 31

1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame;
deliver me in your righteousness.

5 Into your hands I commit my spirit;
redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth. (NIV)

Is my spirit—my life—in God’s hands?

Philippians 1:3-6

³ I thank my God every time I remember you. ⁴ In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy ⁵ because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, ⁶ being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:3-6 (NIV)

God completes what He starts.

Have I let God begin a good work in me?

Philippians 3:7-9

⁷ But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.

⁸ What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.

I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ--the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. Philippians 3:7-9 (NIV)

Paul had it all together!

To make Christ first in my life,
I have to stop trying to be first.

Philippians 3:10-11

¹⁰ I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, ¹¹ and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Philippians 3:10-11 (NIV)

The power of Christ gets us through this suffering and death. God will complete us by raising us from the dead to live forever with Him.
