Question: Why did Nicodemus come to visit Jesus at night: (Three thoughts)

1. Nicodemus came at night because he didn’t want to be seen with Jesus.
2. Nicodemus came at night because there was some sort of secret sin in his life.
3. Nicodemus came at night because he wanted quality time alone with Jesus.

Question: How do you get to heaven?
Answer: You have to be born again from above. (v.3)

What the phrase “unless one is born of water and the Spirit” does not mean? It does not mean that you have to be baptized in order to be saved.

Two possible meanings for the phrase “unless one is born of water and the Spirit”:
1. It could mean spiritual cleansing. (Ez 36:25-27)
“I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.”

2. It could mean physical birth followed by spiritual birth.

Question: How is someone “born again”? Answer: You must do what Nicodemus did.
1. He admitted his need.
2. He came to Jesus personally.
3. He trusted Jesus completely.
