In last week’s sermon we learned that the law of God is good and holy, but that no one can obey the law and earn eternal life.
The purpose of the law is to show us how sinful we are and how inadequate we are in obeying the law.

Once the Father draws us to Jesus and we have saving faith, we are no longer under the curse of the law. The law is still valid for Christians, we are to obey the law but, we are no longer under the penalty of the law, which is death, physical death, spiritual death and ultimately the 2nd death which is an eternity in Hell.

We are no longer the penalty of the law because Jesus who knew no sin filled the requirement of the law and became sin in our place.

We can do nothing to save ourselves; to break the unbreakable chains of bondage to sin. Only by the power of God can those unbreakable chains be broken.

There is no works that you can do to free ourselves from this horrible bondage. Even if the works you do are magnificent beyond description they can never save you from the just punishment we all deserve.

No, we are only saved by faith, and faith being a gift from God we can have nothing to boast about.
