Wilderness - Retreat

So often we feel like we have to face the Wilderness alone, but that's not what we find in the Scriptures at all! Even Jesus retreated with his closest friends to prepare himself for difficult times. YOU DON'T HAVE TO FACE THE WILDERNESS ALONE!

Wilderness - No One Greater

John the Baptist, Jesus’ cousin and the man who prepared the way for the ministry of Jesus has been arrested and sent to Machaerus to prison in the wilderness. When Jesus learns about this, he responds by going the opposite direction and beginning his ministry. About 1 ½ years later John sends message to Jesus asking if he truly was the Messiah. There’s much to be learned from John’s question, and Jesus’ response, but the main idea here is that there is nothing this world can do to us that can keep us from the freedom in Christ. No matter what we suffer in this life, if we remain faithful to Him we will receive an eternal reward greater than anything this life has to offer.

Wilderness - Wondering and Wandering

It is in the wilderness that Moses meets God, and God uses the wilderness here to prepare Moses for leadership. God punished the Israelites for unfaithfulness/disbelief in the wilderness, and God prepared Jesus for his ministry in the wilderness. In all three places, God came near to the people in the wilderness. God uses today to prepare you for tomorrow. What is God preparing you for today?

Wilderness - The Mediator

Most people will encounter a time in their lives where they feel lost, scared, and alone. These feelings/experiences can be physical and spiritual. We face doubt, difficult choices, struggles, hopelessness and often wonder how long this period will last, and wonder why God allows these situations to happen. Many people mentioned in the Bible went through seasons of life just like this, and we can learn about God’s faithfulness, and purpose for us by studying these stories. Today we look at Jeremiah and Job.
