So You Think You're Smarter Than God?

1 Corinthians 3:18-4:5
Pastor Dennis Keating

(For Scripture references and fill-in the blanks)

THE CHALLENGE: Follow godly wisdom. (See Romans 13:7; Proverbs 10:18; Philippians 2:3-4)

“Render to all what is due them: tax to whom tax is due;” Romans 13:7

“. . . he who spreads slander is a fool.” Proverbs 10:18

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4

1. You’ll avoid self-deception. (3:18-20)

THE PRINCIPLE: God’s blessing comes to those who follow godly wisdom. (See Psalm 1:1-6)

“How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” Psalm 1:1-6

2. You’ll eliminate man-boasting. (3:21-23; 1 Timothy 6:17)

“The preacher you enjoy the least may be the preacher you need the most.” Pastor Warren Wiersbe

“. . . richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.” 1 Timothy 6:17

3. You’ll view church leaders correctly. (4:14)

THE POINT: Stay focused on a preacher’s faithfulness to God’s word.

4. You’ll stop premature judging. (4:5; 1 Corinthians 10:31)

“Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
