The Transforming Love of God – How it Works (part 2)

Introduction: In the month of February we began to focus our attention of the concept of God’s love for us. The Apostle Paul prayed that we may know the love of God in its fullness. We saw together that God’s love is a pursuing love, a compelling love and a transforming love. We have learned that God’s love transforms us in 4 primary ways. First, God transforms who we are when we are born again. Second, God transforms what we believe about everything. Third, God then transforms how we live. Fourth, God transforms what we pursue. This is not a one-time process through this 4 step cycle. God continues to transform us in these ways as we journey through this part of our life with God. Ephesians 2:10b describes this process with the words “we are His workmanship”. The ultimate purpose of this work of transformation is to make us more and more like Jesus in every way and to lead us to the pursuit of God’s Kingdom and Righteousness above everything else. This transformation is a work from the inside out. The Holy Spirit who comes to dwell within us when we are born again leads this transformation process.

The Transforming Love of God – How it Works-part 1

Introduction: Throughout this month of February we have focused our attention of the concept of God’s love for us. The Apostle Paul prayed that we may know the love of God in its fullness. We saw together that God’s love is both a pursuing love and a compelling love. Last week we began to consider the truth that God’s love is a transforming love. We determined to think about this aspect of God’s love from the big picture viewpoint. Through Biblical examples and Scripture we saw that God’s love transforms people in 4 primary ways. First, God transforms who we are when we are born again. Second, God transforms what we believe about everything. His Word, as revealed by His Spirit, becomes our authority for understanding everything. Every thought is to be brought captive to the obedience of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:3-6) Thirdly, God then transforms how we live. Lastly, God transforms what we pursue. This is not a one-time process through this 4 step cycle. God continues to transform us in these ways as we journey through this part of our life with God. Ephesians 2:10 describes this process with the words “we are His workmanship”.

The Transforming Love of God-The Big Picture

Introduction: Over the past two weeks we have begun to look at the wonderful love of God. Our focus verse was from Ephesians 3:14-19 where the Apostle Paul prays that we may know (by experience) the fullness of God’s love. Our desire in these messages is to consider together the love of God. We have seen together that God’s love is a pursuing love and a compelling love. Over the next few weeks we will focus our thoughts on the transforming love of God. In our message today we desire to look at the idea of God’s transforming love from a big picture viewpoint. In the weeks ahead we will consider how God’s love specifically does the transforming of our lives and what our lives look like after being transformed by God’s love.

The Compelling Love of God

Introduction: Last week we looked together at this prayer from the Apostle Paul. Our desire is to know more about the love of God. Last week we considered how the love of God is a Pursuing love. Today as we prepare to make commitments to share God’s love using the right now media tool and we commit to 40 days of fasting and prayer we want to reflect for a few moments on the Compelling aspect of God’s love.

The Pursuing Love of God

Introduction: Today we begin a series of messages on the subject of God’s Love. Read Ephesians 3:14-21 now. In Ephesians 1 Paul describes the eternal relationship we enjoy with God once we have trusted in Jesus alone and experience as a result of this trust having our lives eternally joined to Jesus life. Paul describes it with the phrase “in Christ”. Chapter 1 gives us many of the benefits of this relationship.
