The Journey of Faith: Beginning and Finishing Well

Message: The Journey of Faith: Beginning and Finishing Well Scriptures: 1 Timothy 1:18-19; 2 Timothy 4:6-7 Introduction: As we look forward to a new year it is usually a time for considering new beginnings. In our journey of faith it is important to both begin well and finish well. In these two letters the Apostle Paul shares his desire for Timothy to remember his good beginning, to fight the good fight, and to finish well. Some of the young men Timothy knew had become shipwrecked in their faith. This idea of shipwrecked is defined as “to run your ship aground”, like hitting a sandbar or coral reef. It can also be defined as “to collide into something causing damage which stops or sinks the ship”. An example of this would be like the iceberg which sank the Titanic. Shipwrecked faith comes from a lack of knowing the truth. It can also come from neglecting or suppressing the truth we do know. It can come from being over confident in our own strength. To finish well you must seek to avoid shipwreck. If you become shipwrecked in faith God’s love can heal, restore, and empower you to once again walk in His truth.
