Sovereignty and election
0 Amens
Is someone being a Christian ultimately attributable to their location, chance events in their life (think the film Sliding Doors) or because God chose them? And if he chose them to be, on what basis did He do it? Was it on the basis of foreseen good works, or even foreseen faith – does God pick those who are going to pick him?!
No. A person trusts in Jesus because God chose them by grace (completely unmerited favour from the Lord) alone, but why?
And doesn’t this mean they will live a deliberately sinful life knowing that they are chosen and therefore will be saved? And doesn’t this make the person proud if they believe they have been chosen and others haven't? And doesn’t it make evangelism pointless – since some are chosen anyway? Is it fair? Is it good news?
