In the Shelter of the Lamb

In Revelation 7 we were introduced last week to an innumerable multitude of people made up of all nations, tribes and tongues. They are wearing white robes and waving palm branches before the Lamb and before the throne (Revelation 7:9). There are many things to be learned from this vision that John sees of believers who have gone to heaven out of the great tribulation. Let’s rejoin John’s description where we left off last week. It says that this group is crying out God and before the Lamb. What were they saying? I. Those saved out of the tribulation and because of the tribulation A. They are crying out with a loud voice praising the Lamb (Revelation 7:10) 1. Salvation belongs to our God 2. Salvation belongs to the Lamb 3. God has a passion for the lost (I Timothy 2:4, II Peter 3:9) B. Angels around the throne and the four living creatures (Revelation 7:11) C. The elders 1. All fall on their faces 2. All worship God and say (Revelation 7:12) a. Blessing, glory and wisdom b. Thanksgiving, honor, power and might c. Be to Him forever II. The identity of this host of worshippers A. The elder asks John who he thinks these are and where they came from (Revelation 7:13) B. John has no idea C. Where did they come from? Out of the great tribulation (Revelation 7:14) D. Who are they? believers 1. They washed their robes 2. Their robes are white because they are washed in the blood of the Lamb III. What is the activity of these believers? A. What are they doing till the resurrection of their glorified bodies? (Revelation 7:15a) 1. They are worshipping before the throne of God 2. They are serving Him day and night in the heavenly temple B. What condition are they in? (Revelation 7:16) 1. They are not hungry or thirsty 2. They do not have to fight off the heat C. What is the Lamb doing for them? (Revelation 7:15b, 17) 1. The Lamb dwells among them – “He will spread His tent over them” 2. He is shepherding them 3. He is leading them to fountains of living water 4. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes The state of these believers from the tribulation is the same state that believers who have gone before us are in now. This is the state that awaits us if the rapture does not happen before we die. We will be celebrating, worshipping and serving the Lamb in heaven and He will be sheltering, shepherding, leading and comforting us.
