Caveman Theology - 1 Samuel 24:1-22

Do you struggle with matters of timing? Are you looking for your next opportunity, your next raise, or your next relationship? Is it hard to be satisfied? David can empathize. He spent ten years running from Saul’s sword. He constantly faced the temptation to upgrade or abort God’s mission for his life. Yet, in 1 Samuel 24 David learned the lesson: God’s timing is everything. 1. David spares Saul’s life (24:1-7). 2. David defends himself to Saul (24:8-15). 3. David agrees to preserve Saul’s descendants (24:16-22).

In the Nick of Time… - 1 Samuel 23:1-29

In 1 Samuel 23 David and Saul are involved in a cat-and-mouse game. Saul is the “cat” and David is the “mouse.” Both Saul and David have access to human informants. However, David seeks divine direction, while Saul places his trust in human intelligence. Consequently, David the mouse evades Saul the cat. David’s success reveals that in times of adversity we must seek God’s will; He will direct us in all our ways. Specifically, this text reveals that God loves last minute heroics. 1. David succeeds at Keilah (23:1-14). 2. Saul fails at Ziph (23:15-29).

David flees to Ahimelech (22:1-5). 4. The slaughter of Nob (22:6-23).

God’s University - 1 Samuel 19-20

Although seasons of preparation can be especially painful, this is how God works faithfulness into His children. Today, you may feel like you’re waiting in the wings. But God may be preparing you for a great task. Why not willingly enroll in God’s University and let Him determine your graduation date? 1. Jonathan saves David’s life (19:1-7). 2. David eludes Saul again (19:8-10). 3. Michael saves David’s life (19:11-17). 4. God Himself saves David’s life (19:18-24). 5. Jonathan and David talk together (20:1-23). 6. Jonathan and Saul talk together (20:24-34). While David hid in the field, Jonathan returned home to the palace (20:24). 7. Jonathan and David talk together (20:35-42).
