A Christian Response to the Presidential Election

1 Timothy 2:1-6; Romans 13:1-2

    Elections come and go but life goes on. Politicians come and politicians go, but Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Presidents are elected to rule, but the True Ruler of the universe is still sovereign and in charge.

Sermon point in a nutshell? In times of political stress, Christians are called to submit, pray and evangelize.

So what to the listeners if I preach it? Many evangelical Christians are upset with the 2008 Presidential election of Barack Obama.

What do I want listeners to know? Christians have a responsibility to undergird political leaders with prayer even if those leaders are not all they should be.

What response am I calling for? A challenge to pray for President-elect Barack Obama.

Will listeners know how to consistently live out the response?  Yes

How long will it take for listener change-of-behavior?     Immediate

How does sermon fit bigger vision?  We are kingdom citizens who also live in an earthly kingdom.

Is sermon theological?  Yes

Do I believe message will make a difference? Yes

Has it made a difference in me this week? Yes

Have I prayed for God to speak through me? Yes

Have I used other people’s material inappropriately? No

Have I tried to make myself look better than I am? No

Will listeners know I care about them? Yes
