Joshua was the new leader of the Israelites. He was faced with the task of leading people who had been wandering in the wilderness for 40 years. Joshua led them to cross the Jordan River and move into the land God had promised them. Thus, they had graduated from the school of “wilderness wanderings.” Now, they were commencing in a new stage of life. There was joy over graduation, but anxiety over the future.
