The Power of Praying for Your Children

Matthew 7:7-11

MAY 13, 2007

It is no secret! Parents need all the help they can get to raise the kids. Many Christian parents feel very alone and very frustrated, yet they fail to tap into one of the most powerful resources available to them.

P__________ is the way God has designed for us to get His help.

When it comes to prayer, Jesus commands us to ...

1. A_____ and it will be given to you.      R___________!

The Bible commands us to ask God for what we need.

  • John 14:12-14
  • Luke 18:1
  • Philippians 4:6

The spiritual poverty and powerlessness of many Christians is from a lack of prayer.

There are two wrong attitudes people often have in prayer.

A.   __________________________________________

__________________________________________

B. __________________________________________

    __________________________________________

Parents, what are you asking God for in your marriage and family life?

2. S______ and you will find. D______________.

What are you seeking for your family? What are you seeking for your kids?

3. K________ and the door will be opened to you. Determined E__________!

Prayer must have a central place in the life of every Christian. Trust that God wants to give you good gifts. ASK God from your heart and it will be given to you. SEEK God’s direction and you will find. KNOCK earnestly for that which you need and the door will be opened to you. And don’t stop asking and seeking and knocking until you and God are satisfied.

Put your prayers to work for your family. Use these scriptural themes to pray for your children to …

  • Establish a craving for God's Wisdom through His Word (Deuteronomy 6:6-9)
  • Understand that sin has consequences (Numbers 32:23)
  • Be obedient to authority (Colossians 3:20)
  • Live under God's hedge of protection and safekeeping (Job 1:10)
  • Not be swayed by temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13)
  • Nurture a spirit of peace and not of complaining (Philippians 2:14)
  • Have godly supportive and truthful friendships (Proverbs 27:5-6)
  • Develop a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit's conviction (John 16:8)
  • Choose a godly mate and be effective parents (Ephesians 6:4)
