“Too Busy!”

INTRODUCTION:  1 Kings 20:38-43 – The guard just got “too                                                            busy”, and his prisoner escaped.

            - He’s not being punished for what he DID, but for what he                                                         DIDN’T DO … guard his prisoner.

            - We, too, will be judged for what we FAIL to do – James 4:17

Jesus taught this lesson many times:

·         The FIG TREE was cursed because it DIDN’T bear figs.

·         Jesus condemned the “5 foolish virgins” because of no oil.

·         In the “Parable of the Great Supper”, they didn’t do what they                               were supposed to do.

·         MARTHA was “too busy” in the kitchen.

WHY DID HE FAIL?

1.- Not Because of his IGNORANCE – He knew his duties.

            - Christians don’t lack for knowledge … we KNOW what to do.

                                    We just need to DO IT – Proverbs 3:6

            - What is our duty?  “Fear God & keep His commandments” –                                                        Ecclesiastes  12:13

2.- Not Because of his ABILITY – He had the ability.

            - We have the ability to resist temptation – 1 Corinthians 10:13

            - We can’t do everything we might WANT to do, but when it                comes to the Christian life, we can do anything GOD wants                us to do – Philippians 4:13, 1 Timothy 1:12.

3.- Not Because of his IDLENESS – He wasn’t lazy.

            - It boils down to PRIORITIES … he allowed the LESS important                                   to take precedence over the MOST important.

            - Doing the “good” will rob you of doing the “best”.

            - Don’t sin by choosing to do the “2^nd best”.

            - “Good is the enemy of the best.”

            - Don’t delegate God to the back burner – Matthew 6:33

            - “When you’re too busy for God … you’re TOO BUSY!”

CONCLUSION:

            - Where does Jesus rank in your life?

            - Satan has his priorities for your life – Being Under Satan’s Yoke

            - Don’t give Jesus your “2^nd best”.
